I ❤ reading. Once started I don't seem to be able to stop. Many sleepless nights are the result of that particular addiction.^^

When I started reading this book, I honestly expected something different. Something more like another protag with ninja-ass fighting skills, too cool to be true. In short, some other vesion of Sin.
And I gotta tell you, I am glad that I was wrong, because I thoroughly enjoyed the Gordon Frost Santino created for us. He's your run-off-the-mill, average (a bit more than petty) crimial, in it for the money. He's had a pretty shitty childhood and, all in all, matches my image of a sleazy drug dealing criminal. He's a mouthy bastard who can't fight for shit and tries to hide/forget his insecurities, low self esteem and bad memories. Preferably with the help of some drug induced numbness. In short, he feels deliciously real.
It's always more fun to read about people who aren't painfully perfect and skillful and able to go total badass on you any second. Of course, I dig skilled badasses as well--in small doses, that is. Adam belongs to that particular group, after all. And is a whole different kind of fucked up and has that whole cold, scary and mysterios government agent/assassin thing for him going. Which makes him an intriguing character, for sure. But a likable one? Not in the proper sense of the word. I'm not sure if Gordon is either, for that matter. But that makes it all the more an interesting read.
I relly love and missed the ICos world, and I might even like "After Midnight" better than the original ICoS series--because I liked the MCs better. Go figure.
So, this gritty, edgy book went straight to my favourites.
(Note: I've read the original version of "After Midnight", which I am reviewing. It has been mentioned that tne new version contains enough changes which make is worth revisitng. SO, I am quite sure that I will do exactly that at some point in the furure.)
